Well well well…. here we are again. Back with a new year and new series or absolutely ridiculous blogs to both inform and bring joy to your day to day!!!! Todays topic: The Sax player jamming at weddings!!!!
So i’m writing this in late may even thought its gonna be posted as a January blog… cause i’m busy and I’m an adult and can do what I want hahaha. For serious though… I’ve already had a half dozen wedding with sax players this year alone and I know I’ve got another dozen on the books before my year ends in December. Now this is not a bad thing at all. I absolutely love jamming with live musicians, but I am also a classically trained live musician so it makes life much easier. So heres a couple of the Pros and Cons the bringing in a funky Kenny G to your event!!!
First off is that your dj understands what the term “Key” or “Playing in Key” means. One of if not the only complication of having an open format DJ with any live musician can be the sudden key shifts and how to adjust to them. Now more then likely your Sax player is gonna hear the shifts and adjust accordingly but on occasion i’ve been asked to make sure i’m playing in a certain Key to keep the sax sounding as it should!!!! No problem at all for me as I can catalog my library on not just BPM but the Key as well. Something to conder when asking your sax player or dj for that matter to play your event.
The next and only other con I can think of beside my closing is that make sure the DJ has the proper equipment to plug the live instrument in. This isn’t an issue for me cause my life is dope and so is my equipment!!! but a very important question to ask non the less.
I will finish with having a Sax player is dope but as in anything make sure they got it together… and it the words or the legendary Forrest Gump…. Thats all i’ve got to say about that!!!!
