Along my amazing party journey. I’ve been able to work with all sorts of folks in all kinds of monetary situations. From folk who don’t have two nickels to rub together to inherited wealth so vast its been 5 generations since anyone in the family put in any “real” work. Its truly amazing to see how the almighty dollar has shaped the kind of people we have become!!! Existential crisis aside, I grace you with that tidbit to follow with this. I often get asked why I don’t charge 5k-10k for my top of the line service and the answer is pretty straight forward…..ahhhhhh No.
First I don’t believe in having levels of service….. I know in the modern era we wanna have tiers of everything giving you all the options ones heart could desire, but lets get this out the da way right out the gate… Every time I step behind the Turntables its The A Game and NOTHING BUT The A game. Don’t care if i’m holding down a charity event or I get invited to the White House…. I bring the A GAME ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!
If I decided to charge, lets say even on the lower side of 5k (this is for an average night, not New Years, 4th (‘Merica f**k yeah) St. Pats, etc where 5k is the starting number) It would instantly eliminate a hugggggggge portion of my demographic. 5k is a ton of money. If you don’t think so cause you have so much, and you are being ridiculous and probably slow dance in a half circle like you have Polio. All jokes aside, that is a very large finical commitment and I am absolutely worth it but it limits my clients, which then limits the amounts of events I’m doing. With fewer events, I’m getting much fewer attempts to hone my craft in a live environment. Much like exercise gains, I need to maintain my level of work or my skills will slowly fade. There is no amount of practice in my studio that gets me ready for the live environments. No drunk folk screaming for Drake or T swift, No people in the back judging till you drop their song. Its much different in the field then in the studio.
I could absolutely charge 10k a night but i’m only gonna work a handful of nights a year, and although that sounds appealing, I prob wouldn’t be worth the 10k i’m charging at that point. Its an absolute necessity for all Dj’s to keep there skill sharp, not just that but knowing whats Hot!!!! Can’t just turn on the radio and listen to the top 10 ya know!!!! Have to see how the streets react!!! Bad enough we get force fed this tone def music (don’t worry its not exclusive to any generation….they have been forcing garbage down our throats for decades… Looking at you Katy Perry). A good Dj knows what the people want to hear… and only way to do that is to be among the people!!!! OUT WORKING FOR A REASONABLE RATE 3 TO 4X A WEEK SON!!!!! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Health & Happiness to all!!!!!
