Welp…. not often i’m surprised in my line of work. Pretty wild to say considering the nature of it and how every second is legit intentional chaos on the dance floor…. I digress. I was how ever sent for a loop a month ago and i’ve finally recovered and am ready to talk about it!!!! I had not one… but all of my dj mixers fail… at one time…. CAUSE OF A STINKIN FIRMWARE UPDATE GOOD LORD ALMIGHTY ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS NONSENSE RIGHT NOW!!!!!
I’ve been a full time DJ for almost 25 years now. Like anyone who has had the privilege of working in the same industry for that period of time might become loyal to a brand. You work in an office maybe you like Microsoft computers over Apple. You are a baker and perhaps you prefer a certain brand of bread loaf pan over another… you get where i’m going with this. Its the same in the music world, I have very strong brand loyalty to the company’s who have taken care me…..or for that matter not taken care of me over the years. The worst of these situations is when a brand, you trust so much you would let baby sit your child lets you down… Thats what happen to me… Little mom and pop shop got bought out by a bigger house and the product when to shit… thats right I swore… no shock if you have wasted your time reading any of my other blogs or met me in person but I’M TRYING TO DO BETTER PEOPLE SO LET ME LIVE!!!!
I would normally not want the bad Juju of calling some one out like this but the company in question was Rane. They were made famous for making the first DVS turntable software and then followed it up by making the best mixers in the industry for…..legit ever.. until now. I got back to the 57 and the 57sl when the came out then the 62 so on and so forth. I didn’t get the 72 but went with the 70’s and a firmware update bricked the right channel on all my mixers over night… Granted these mixers are used daily for years now but it wasn’t the ware and tare that failed… it was a fucking firmware update. They then discontinued the battle mixer after fuck shit ass hole Denon purchased the company. Even if I replace the faulty channel the problem will persist as its not a hardware issue, but a software issue and they no longer care about the product. This sort of unreliability is exactly why I don’t use dog shit Denon equipment in the field. You fucking losers should stick to home stereos and keep your dumb looking faces out of the DJ market. They have not made a reliable product since the early 2000’s and it was a dual deck cd player…. Shame on you Denon… Shame on you.
After this fiasco I now carry 2 different brand of mixers with me at all time.. neither from Rane. This way, if a company like Denon comes along and tries to ruin another brand of battle mixer at least I have a fighting chance to finish my sets for the night… Shame on the whole Denon staff for discontinuing the battle mixer line at Rane.
