Asking your guests for music selections?…. and the Consequences involved

I’m sure you have been to a wedding or know of a wedding where on the invitations they ask “What song do you wanna hear?” Certainly an interesting approach, but in the era of crowdsourcing allow me to tell you the benefits and the downside to this method of making your playlists!!

So if planning your wedding you ask people for music, let’s talk about the benefit. The first and very obvious one is, from a DJ’s prospective its like seeing a road map for the dance floor. Such a broad spectrum for the dance floor gives me the opportunity to pull songs from a massive DJ pool and really get creative with what i’m doing. It also fills the guest with a sense of involvement in the wedding which can be great especially for the smaller more intimate weddings. If you and your family are a super tight knit squad and hang all the time and know what to expect from each other then boom!!! this is a great way to make sure everyone has a great time and hears the music they want!!

Now for the people having hugggge shin-digs, I’m talking 200 people and more…. here is the more realistic side of things…

The reality of this is you are now creating the expectation that the persons song will get played. Let me give you an example. In every friend or family group there one Aunt or Cousin you are forced to invite and this Pinky Toe of a person is always gonna request something against the grain from what is being played. Dance floor could be packed and she will demand you play Tom Jones cause she took the time to fill out a song request and this 12 Cat having lady must hear it!!! Not that Tom Jones doesn’t go hard but there is a time and place for everything!!! Its that we have not created the expectation that this song will be played so if you are gonna go this route with a larger group be prepared for the consequences.

Health and Happiness people!!!!!
